Historical background
Like many Milanese monuments, the station’s history was troubled. The first 17 projects submitted to the commission, headed by Camillo Boito, dean of theBrera Academy of Fine Arts, were all rejected because they failed to meet the demands of the call. In 1911, 43 designs were submitted and that of Tuscan architect Ulisse Stacchini, “In motu vita,” was chosen.
